I had a self defense company before I came to Korea. Because of this specialized knowledge, Youngsan University had me teaching a special class for student who were going to learn English in America.
제가 한국에 오기 전 미국에서 호신술 전문회사를 운영했었어요. 그 능력 덕분에 영산대학교에서 저에게 미국으로 어학연수가는 학생들을 위한 특별수업을 부탁했죠.

During this class, I had a lot of questions from students about safety concerns when traveling to America, so as I answered these questions and it got me thinking. I should write a safety book for Koreans traveling to America.
수업동안 학생들과 미국의 안전문제에 대한 다양한 질의응답을 하면서 미국에 가는 한국인들을 위한 안전 지침서를 써야겠다는 생각을 했죠.

So this is a safety book? I thought it is a book about American culture? 그러면 이 책이 미국 문화에 대한 것이 아니라 안전 지침서인가요?

As I was writing the book, I heard a lot of stories from students and realized that a lot of safety concerns and problems are easily fixed when Koreans understood American culture. So the book evolved from a safety book to a book about American culture. 한국인들이 미국에서 겪을 수 있는 안전문제들은 미국 문화를 이해했을 때, 제대로 피할 수 있다고 생각했어요. 그래서 이 책은 미국의 문화 뿐 만 아니라 안전에 관한 이야기도 담고 있어요.

So it is not just a safety book, it is also a book about American culture. 그러면 쉽게 말해서 미국의 전반적인 문화에 대한 문화 책 이자 안전 지침서라고도 할 수 있네요.
